The Department of Agricultural Sciences was established in 2016 aims at achieving excellence in academics and agriculture research. Bachelor’s and Master’s courses in Agriculture are offered by the Department. The Department offers four years course in B. Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture and two years Masters programme in Agronomy. The Department has designed dynamic and focused curricula as per the guidelines of Indian Council of Agricultural research (ICAR) to develop well-trained manpower for academics, agro-based industry and extension oriented applications. To keep in pace with the advancement and requirement of the agricultural education system, the college adopted the revised academic curricula recommended by different Dean’s committee from time to time to maintain the standard of teaching. Each field of specialization is headed by highly qualified faculty and supported by well equipped laboratories with state-of-the-art instrumentation. The thrust areas of the department include multi-disciplinary research in the fields of agriculture and its allied ventures. Research projects funded by Department of Science and Technology, government of India are in operation in the department. The Department is well-equipped with spacious classrooms and laboratories to provide quality teaching and research opportunities for the students. The students are also imparted training in the field through conduct of research trials and demonstrations.
The vision of the Department of Agricultural Sciences to iculture and its overall development & department remains deeply committed to dissemprovide consultancy in agriculture to disseminate the technology innovation to the producer through integrated extension activities Department of Agricultural Sciences visualize the critical importance of Agrination of both for increasing productivity, rural development and enhancing the quality education.
The mission of the Department of Agricultural Sciences is committed to attain excellence in teaching, research and extension by providing quality education, undertaking basic, applied and adaptive research to evolve suitable cost-effective agricultural production and protection technologies and by acting as a catalyst for the growth of agro-based industries in Punjab. To do so, it keeps on doing various type of research related to agriculture
ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES
PO-1: To understand the impact of the professional agricultural solutions in societal and environmental contexts and demonstrate the knowledge for sustainable agriculture development through demonstration research based knowledge of the legal and ethical.
PO-2: To learn and conduct research in agriculture and other allied branches to increase quality, quantity and productivity of prominent crops and to acquire ability to analyze data and draw appropriate statistical conclusions.
PO-3: Ability to understand and analyze the current events and issues that are examine the relationships between inputs and outputs in their agricultural field to make effective and profitable agri-entrepreneurship.
PO-4: Develop understanding how all aspects of agriculture combine and are used by scientists, marketers, producers and how employer characteristics and decision-making at various levels enhance the success of an agricultural enterprise.
PO-5: To get trained for climatologically records, Weather codes and Symbols, reading and recording of weather and climatic data for weather forecasting, soil data and other aspects of soil fertility and nutrient management with integration of animal husbandry.
PO-6: Able to gain comprehensive knowledge of agriculture and horticultural production. Current applications of agricultural principles and practices: propagation, pest management, soil fertility, plant breeding, maintenance, and characteristics of the environment and their influence on plant growth and development.
