ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

It is one of the constituent departments of the Vivekananda Global University. The Faculty of Law envisages advancement of institutional expertise in the area of legal research and education by augmenting academic and professional excellence, developing critical and relentless engagement with legal theory and practice, synergizing law, legal research, legal education and action to further the quest for justice.

 The faculty of Law aspires to open new vistas in the arena of law, legal studies, theoretical and clinical legal education through an incessant endeavor towards developing academic potential, critical analytical ability, advocacy, counseling and mediation skills so as to fully equip the students with learning which is intellectually stimulating, socially vital and professionally enriching. Adoption of multi-disciplinary approach towards law and legal education, training, legal processes through capacity building of the faculty and facilitating access to advanced academic courses. It also aims at expansion of faculties for advanced research in law, introduction of new and vibrant courses and for augmenting the capacity to undertake consultancies.

The approach of the law school is to develop a positive attitude in students and make them realize that the lawyers are an integral part of the system of adjudication, determination of policies and setting up of standards for regulation of various activities through relevant institutions. It, therefore, trains them for placements in judiciary, quasi-judicial bodies, regulatory authorities , commissions , voluntary organizations and other sectors . Keeping in view the status of litigation in court system, courses are also offered in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADRs) and Client Counseling and Interviewing. These courses train a lawyer to offer alternative ways of dispute resolution outside the court system.

Program Outcome (POs): A graduate of 3 year Law course will demonstrate

PO1. Legal Knowledge: To acquire & apply legal knowledge to the complex Socio-legal problems.

PO2. Professional Practice: to make students eligible to practice in Courts, Industries, Companies as legal practitioner.

PO3. Professional Skills: To possess professional skills required for legal practice such as Argument, Pleading, drafting, conveyancing etc.

PO4. Professional Ethics: To understand and apply principles of professional ethics of legal profession.

PO5. Legal research & legal reasoning: to develop legal research skills & legal reasoning and apply it during programme & in Legal practice.

PO6. Self-reflection & lifelong learning : To develop an attitude of self-reflection while learning & Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of changing legal contexts.

PO7. Self-employability: To provide a platform of self-employability by developing professional skills in legal industry.

PO8. Leadership skills: To develop leadership qualities amongst students.

PO9. Lifelong Learning: To make awareness about Constitutional legislative & societal transformation in society & to develop clinical abilities.

PO10. Lawyering skills: Every graduate will become skilled in legal research, written and oral communication, teamwork, advocacy, and problem-solving.

PSOS2. Drafting, Counseling and Negotiation: Develop the skill of drafting or art of framing various plaints, petitions, writ, letters, using proper English format with clarity. Students therefore learn the skills of collaboration, negotiation and counseling for the ethical implementation of legal system.

PSOS3. Building Professionalism: Understands the standards of conduct involved in practice of law and demonstrate values of legal profession. This inculcate ethical responsibilities towards clients in a legal system.

PSOS4. Development of Interpersonal Skills: Develops the ability to analyze, synthesize and disseminate large amount of complex and disparate information comprising of legal and non-legal aspects on the working of the entire system.

PO1: Critical Thinking: Explore and explain the substantial & procedural laws in which they are made/drafted and how students think and understand the legislative setup.

PO2: Effective Communication: Ability to learn the art of communicating and demonstrating their oral advocacy skills. Projecting the facts in a way suitable to the client and power to convince on legal reasoning forms the essence of communication in courts of law.

PO3: Social Interaction: Interpret and Analyze the legal and social problems and work towards finding solutions to the problems by application of laws and regulations.

PO4: Effective Citizenship: Inculcate values of Rights and Duties, and transfer these values to real- life through legal and judicial process for promoting community welfare.

PO5: Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to legal professional ethics, responsibilities and  norms of the established legal practices.

PO6: Environment and Sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional, legal solutions in societal and environmental contexts and demonstrate the knowledge of and need for sustainable development.
