As each economy around the world becomes increasingly international, the need and demand for foreign languages continues to grow. And the importance of foreign language proficiency for graduates cannot be underestimated, as a recent report from the influential Economist Intelligence Unit underlined: “Even when recruiting for jobs in their home market, almost one-half of all companies say that prospective candidates need to be fluent in a foreign language, and a further 13% say that multilingual ability is a key selection criterion.

Of course the incentive for learning a foreign language isn’t always money motivated. The benefits of a bilingual or multilingual education are well documented, such as: aids cross cultural understanding and global awareness; enhances academic progress in other subjects; narrows achievement gaps; benefits higher order, abstract and creative thinking; enriches and enhances cognitive, skills, and emotional development; enhances a student’s sense of achievement; helps students score higher on standardized tests; improves chances of college acceptance, achievement and attainment; enhances career opportunities; benefits understanding and security in community and society.

Considering the vital role of foreign language, French language classes were organized by university for BBA/BJMC students. Ms. Anushree Malpani conducted very interesting French language sessions and students participated enthusiastically.

GERMAN LANGUAGE CLASSES : 2019-2020

The language learning market is changing at rapid pace due to the globalization of the economy and the adoption of cost-efficient technology-based products. German is one of the ten most spoken languages in the world. Some 185 million people worldwide speak German. Foreign languages are also increasingly sought after by employers. Considering the pivotal role of foreign language in global market, University organized German language classes.

The classes were divided into two parts focussing on the ability to understand and read, and the ability to speak which is also regarded as speech and writing.  On the other  hand,  the  other  indispensable  elements  in  foreign  language  teaching are grammar and vocabulary. So, for successful and effective education and training, emphasis was to develop these four basic language skills in accordance with the level and needs of the learners.

When looked at textbooks in education, it is seen that there is often listening-comprehension, after that reading comes followed by talking and finally writing.
