Soft Skills:

In the modern workplace, Students need more soft skills than technical skills to be successful in their career. Today’s employers seek candidates who can perform their jobs well but who can also fit into the company culture and interact with other employees. In order to do these things successfully, students need to develop soft skills. At Vivekananda Global University, we focus more about soft skills, their importance in career and how to develop them.

Vivekananda Global University identified soft Skills development as a need for its deserving students across Graduation & Post-Graduation levels. Soft Skills training required to be delivered by experienced consultants over several months during the academic year.

Soft Skills and Personality Development

A one-day personality grooming workshop was organized by Dept. of English, Vivekananda Global University on the virtual platform Zoom on December 3, 2020. Around 85 students from the university participated in the two-hour long workshop on ‘Soft Skills and Personality Grooming’ and the workshop was conducted by Ms. Saloni Modi, current Division Director of Division C, Toastmasters International.

As part of the team building workshop, the students were divided into five groups and each group was assigned the task of making a building with a set of newspapers provided to them. The purpose was to highlight the concept of stability and space.

Group discussion sessions were conducted on topics ‘Need of Computer Education for the Overall Development of Society’ and ‘Need of English Education in the Present Context’. It was followed by an interview session wherein the students were asked to answer a basic set of questions usually asked during interviews. At the end of the workshop, the students were given inputs on ‘how to prepare a good resume’ and ‘how to face an interview confidently’

The workshop covered following areas

  • Meaning of personality grooming
  • Importance of soft skills
  • Various dimensions of soft skills
  • Team building through an activity
  • Group Discussion on a given topic
  • Interview skills
  • Resume writing

Conclusion:

The workshop ended with students’ queries that were answered by the speaker satisfactorily and the workshop made the students aware that soft skills are necessary to be mastered upon for proper grooming of the personality.

2. Workshop on Personality Development:

The three-day workshop on ‘Personality Development & Theatre’ evoked great interest among the students of Journalism & Mass Communication and they actively participated in the same. The speaker narrated to the students how Theatre can be used for personality development and mental fitness.

                                

About-Oscar Wilde regarded theatre as the ‘’greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being. Many theatre artists have used the medium to put across the message of social and political reforms.

 

Conclusion- The workshop proved to be a huge success with the media students, who showed great interest in understanding the various aspects of theatre. They were apprised about the steps in theatre performance and staging of drama. They also showcased their talents before the expert

3. PROFESSIONAL CORPORATE GROOMING:

As part of the Lockdown Webinar/Workshop organized by Vivekananda Global University, School of Hospitality, VGU conducted the Workshop on- ‘Professional Corporate Grooming’ on 20th June, 2021.

All the students of the School of Hospitality Management, diploma as well as degree, participated in the workshop completed under the able guidance of our Guest Speaker/ Resource Person- Ms. Mamta Sharma, Sr. Human Resource Executive, Radisson City Centre, Jaipur.

Learning Outcomes of the Workshop are given below:

  • Introduction to Radisson.
  • Learning the concept of grooming.
  • Differentiating physical and mental grooming.
  • Understanding the concept of ‘First Impression’.
  • Understanding the role of grooming in guest or customer satisfaction.
  • How hygiene plays a role in grooming.
  • How is Hotel Grooming different from the rest of the corporate sector?
  • Practicing communication skills.
  • How personality helps in entrepreneurial success.
  • Importance of personality in maintaining relationships with customer (CRM).
  • Scope of HR and L&D.
  • How is outsourcing of Human Resource done and what are the possibilities of being an entrepreneur in the field.

It was undoubtedly a great learning experience for all the students. The objective of the workshop is hence fulfilled.

Trainings were delivered in a classroom in the College. During initial weeks, sessions were conducted on every Friday & Saturday from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon. No sessions were planned during college holidays & exam periods. After few months, extended sessions were scheduled on Sundays & holidays to catch up on the schedule.

The actual hours spent on each topic are as follows. The difference between plan & actual hours is because of specific need identified by the Consultants while delivering the Training Program.

Conclusion

The Soft Skills Training Program was completed by the Consultants as per the expectations of the College. At the end of the Training Program students have informed that they have achieved their top expectations from the program – “Confidence & stage-daring” and “English communication”. Hence it can be concluded that the Training Program was successful in delivering the desired results.

ZENITH 2020

Brief Report: Department of Commerce organised a 30-day long development program “Zenith Day” for students. The development program was started from September 7, 2020 to October 6, 2020. In the first week of Zenith 2020, Students were given tips on Networking and explained the way to facilitate coordination & teamwork. Students were taught Presentation Skills, the Significance of Internship, and Tips to handle failures and to overcome them. The session started with Mrs. Aditi sharing things about her personal life and her experience as a CA student, a kathak dancer, a learner, being a girl child in the toughest of times and it struck a wave of inspiration through the hearts of every student present.
