Prof. Hoshiyar Singh did his B.Sc. Ag. followed by M.Sc. Ag. in Plant Breeding &
Genetics from Rajasthan College of Agriculture, Udaipur in 1987. Subsequently, he
did his Ph.D. from SKN College of Agriculture, Jobner, as a coursework in 2002. He
has a diversified experience of more than 36 years of serving in educational
institutions and research organizations.
He is presently a Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at Vivekananda
Global University, Jaipur. Before this, he served as Director of Seeds, SKNAU,
Jobner, and was in charge of AICRP on Wheat and Barley Division of Plant Breeding
and Genetics, RARI, Durgapura, Jaipur. He has been actively engaged in research,
training, and consultancy for farmers for three decades. Prof. Singh has a deep
understanding of the university administration ranging from policy matters to day-to-
day functioning. He was actively involved in governing and academic bodies of
SKNAU, Jobner, as a member of the Academic Council. He has gained knowledge
about micro facts of university administration through assignments as a member of
Departmental Committees, Inspection Committees, Inquiry Committees, Warden,
etc.
Professor Singh has published 49 research papers in international and national
journals, two book chapters, 35 research reports, and completed eight professional
training courses. He has also attended 42 conferences and had two visits abroad. As
a teacher, he has guided three Ph.D. students. On the research front, Professor
Singh has developed potential and high-yielding varieties of wheat like Raj.3765,
Raj.3777, Raj.4037, Raj.4083, Raj.4120, Raj.6560, Raj.4079, Raj.4229, Raj.4238,
Raj.Molya Rodhak 1 and Musk Melon variety RM 43. He has participated in several
group meetings, National & International Seminars, Symposia, and Conferences,
and visited Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, and CIMMYT, Mexico, thereby having a
wide exposure in the global scientific arena. He also worked with USAID and SKRAU
collaborative projects as a Principal Investigator.
In 1997, he was awarded Rs 1.00 lakh by Mr. Chaturanan Mishra, the Agriculture
Minister of India, for developing the exceptional wheat variety Raj.3777, known for its
suitability for very late sowing conditions and heat tolerance. Additionally, he
received the 'Best Wheat Breeder' award from the Director of IIWBR, Karnal. His
outstanding contributions to research have also been recognized by SKRAU,
Bikaner, and the State Government.
